Alzheimer’s Memory Walk 2008

I know Alzheimer’s disease is one of the serious illnesses in the world although I don’t have any family member who affected with this. Alzheimer's disease is a progressive, degenerative disease of the brain, which causes thinking and memory to become seriously impaired. Two proven risk factors for Alzheimer's disease are age and family history. According to the research, ten percent of people over 65 years of age and half of those over 85 years of age have Alzheimer's disease. And according to the Alzheimer’s Association, Alzheimer's is the 6th leading cause of death in the U.S and at every 71 seconds, someone is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Can you imagine that?

The largest event called Alzheimer's Memory Walk will be held to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer care, support and research. More than 600 communities will held this Memory Walk and over 200,000 people will participate this year. It is a 2-3 miles walk held on a weekend morning in the fall.
